How to Apply for Passport Online in India
Get the Passport Application Form:
An individual can get it through online and only requires to apply online for Passport through Registration and after done, get print outs of the application form.
How to fill the Offline Form:
The Passport Application Form is Machine Readable. Please follow the instructions as follows:
- Use capital letters only & Use black/blue ball pen only.
- Particulars in the form will be printed in the passport. Therefore, be careful in filling up form and avoid any mistakes.
- While filling up the boxes, leave one box blank after each completed word.
- Write clearly within the box leaving the boundaries.
- Adjust information to fit within given nos. of given boxes.
- Avoid over-writing and incomplete application will not be accepted.

Details for Online Registration: Let’s get started with the process of ‘How to Apply for Passport Online in India’…..
Step 1 Register through the Passport Seva Portal. (Hit on “Register” link under the Online Application Filling section on the Home Page).
Step 2 Login to the Passport Seva Portal with the registered User ID.
Step 3 Select “Apply for Fresh Passport / Reissue of Passport” link.
Step 4 Fill in the required details in the form and Submit.
Step 5 Hit on the “Schedule Appointment” link on the “View Saved/Submitted Applications” screen to schedule an appointment.
Online Payment can be made mandatory for booking appointments at Passport Seva Kendras and can be made using any one of the following modes:
- Credit/Debit Card (MasterCard & Visa)
- Internet Banking (State Bank of India (SBI) and Associate Banks Only)
- SBI Bank Challan
Step 6 Hit the “Print Application Receipt” link to print the application receipt containing Application Reference Number (ARN)/Appointment Number.
Step 7 Visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) where appointment has been booked, along with original documents.
Note: Only if there’s a case of an emergency or simply medical case or also pre approved categories are only allowed without any permission or appointment to visit Passport Seva Kendra.
Expert Advice: Safety and Security While Travelling
Service will be provided at the discretion of Passport Seva Kendra in-charge/Passport Officer. Minor applicants below 4 years of age need to carry a recent coloured passport size (4.5 x 3.5 cm) photograph with a white background while visiting Passport Seva Kendra.
Other applicants need not carry any photograph as photograph will be captured at the Passport Seva Kendra. If there’s a requirement of Resubmission of application form then in this case person may visit the Passport Seva Kendra within 90 days from the online form submission.
Where to Apply:
For Online Registration, the applicant has to submit the print outs of the application form along with mandatory documents to the respective passport office in the appointment date and time printed.

- District Passport Cells
- Passport Collection Centers
An application for a passport may be submitted personally OR through a representative (any close member of the family or recognized travel agent(s) only) carrying an authority letter.

All original documents are to be shown at the time of submission of the passport application form. With the Original Passport Application Form, self-attested copies of all required documents need to be attached. In case an applicant has stayed at more than one address during the last one year, he/she should furnish two additional photocopies of the PP form for each additional place of stay. Illiterate applicants should put only thumb impression in the box meant for thumb impression/signature.
